Iran and Kuwait were lead by Saddam Hussein. A Shiite revolution takes places in Iran, and takes power by Ayatollah Khomeini. As a Sunni leader, Saddam Hussein in Iraq is concerned. A war breaks out because of the fear that revolution will reach Iraq. It was really a war of religion although both claimed territories of each other. This war ended because the UN gets involved and a treaty is signed. After Hussein claims Kuwait to start the first Gulf War, countries join in a coalition against Iraq, including some Arab countries. The U.S.A intervenes and makes sure Israel doesn't join. Saddam Hussein, the president of Iraq, becomes a military giant in the Middle East who betrays the U.S.A. Kuwait was the second largest source of petroleum in the Middle East so Iraqi invasions was mainly for the oil. The fights involved the uses of poison and gas high, illegal military tactics in human kind.
The result the Israeli War of Independence was mostly for them to claim land that they believed belonged to them. It was definitely a victory for the Israeli people. For the Suez Crisis, it resulted with the change in influence from British and French, to Russian and American. When the crisis was resolved by the UN Peacekeeping force, it really helped the economy in Israel. With the Six Days War, Israel was proving to other countries that they could handle the Arab nations on their own, without any interference of other countries. Israel was able to use their strong military and their resourceful intelligence agencies. The results of the Yom Kippur War was the formation of OPEC and the continuation of the alliance between Israel and the US.
As the US suggested a partition, this made the Jews happy. However the Arabs were angry. When many Jews left Europe to go to Israel because of Holocaust, the Arab League was formed to protest the Balfour Declaration. Jews started a Zionist movement to get their homeland and the Brits handed the problem to the UN in 1947 where the UN suggested a partition so the Jews had their own country (Israel) but the Arabs are angry because Israel split up many Arab regions. The Jews won (which was unlikely) and force Arabs to retreat, and Israel increased its territory.
David O. Russell's movie Three Kings was filmed in 1999. Set in Iraq, this movie was about four American soldiers during the Persian Gulf War planning to steal gold back for Kuwait. However, while trying to look for the gold, they realized there were people that were being persecuted. These people were encouraged by the US government to fight against Saddam Hussein. In all honesty, I really did not like this movie. Although it stared actors such as George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube, I think that the mass amount of swearing really washed out the fact that this issue was really serious at the time. It is understandable that they could not show all the aspects of the Persian Gulf War, but this movie seemed 'too Hollywood' for me.
